Its too late! Don't build a Personal Brand now!
But if you are someone who doesn't give up, this one's for you.
Soon, virtual influencers (AI-generated creators) will storm your feed with best-in-class pieces of content. Influencers with enough capital will pay for premium access to AI tools to create and repurpose better than you will.
Conclusion? YOU will struggle to find your audience even more. I am not in the business of fear-mongering but in this case, you should be a little scared. With the kind of time restrictions and limited resources you have, it is fair to say that you are too late and it is time for you to move on.
But wait, are you willing to give up? No? Perfect. Now, this newsletter is worth reading. The current trends in AI are more the reason why you should work on your “personal brand” before your name is forever lost in the noise. Ask yourself these 10 questions to get clarity before you put time and effort —
1. What do you want to be known for?
Figure out what drives you. Are you a developer who paints as well? Figure out which aspect will make you stand out. Gradually, transition into someone who has expertise in both niches.
2. Is your profile worth skimming?
First impressions matter You can be a wizard but you can’t expect people to take interest in you if you carry a blank profile picture. It’s not inviting enough. Don’t end up being an unrecognized genius. Remember, when people talk about electricity, the name that pops up is “Edison” and not “Tesla”. Work on your presentation and optimize your static real estate.
3. What’s your end goal?
Other than “what you want to be known for”, figure out what are you trying to achieve and define measurable metrics around that. If you are aiming to grow your audience, focus on impressions. If you want to generate leads and close clients, track your inbounds and comment interactions.
4. Do you have social proof?
Gather testimonials. Put it on display. Gather your learnings. Put it on display. Gather your past projects. Put it on display. People only see what you show. Nobody has enough time to figure out about you on their own.
5. Are you a good storyteller?
If you can share the same information without sounding like a machine, you’re gold. Learn the art of sales and storytelling. For a few moments alone, make your audience feel immersed in whatever you are sharing.
6. Is it too early? Is it too late?
If you are a beginner, create for beginners. If you are an expert, create for experts. Simple. There will never be a “perfect time”. Instead of paralyzing yourself, learn, experiment, and share on the go.
7. Where are you creating?
With generative AI, content creation is becoming easier than ever before. But every piece of content doesn’t fit well with every platform. Create content for the platform that is best suited to your content style. You can always repurpose later if you want to diversify.
8. Do you endorse yourself enough?
It is very important to clearly communicate what you talk about and consistently promote yourself to reach a new set of people. Never shy away from plugging yourself in with your value prop, wherever possible.
9. Who is in your network?
Your active network can literally define your net worth. Leverage what you already have to find what you seek. Build relations and nurture them.
10. Do you have a community?
While you spend time getting followers and impressions, don’t forget to build a community of your own. Reply to comments, engage in DMs, and get on calls. Find people who will endorse you without you asking for it.
And it’s a wrap!
